Be the difference.Job SummaryUnder the direction of a pharmacist, a pharmacy technician performs pharmacy-related functions in compliance with department policies and procedures and participates as an active member of the pharmacy team to provide safe, rational and cost-effective pharmaceutical care for patients served by Upstate Medical Pharmacy. A Pharmacy Technician II is competent in all Technician I accountablities and in addition, assures clinical, departmental, and independent leadership development annually. Assists in training pharmacy personnel.Accountabilities

  • Performs all technician functions specific to specialty pharmacy including:a. Creates patient profiles in multiple software systems (dispensing software, patient management software, cover my meds, etc)b. Conducts benefits investigations on all specialty prescriptionsc. Assists pharmacists with prior authorizations/appealsd. Clarifies orders with pharmacist and/or providers as necessarye. Coordinates initial fills and refills for all specialty medicationsf. Educates patients/caregivers to specialty pharmacy servicesg. Facilitates/schedules delivery of medication to patients (home delivery or intercampus courier)h. Documents progress in various software platforms (EMR, patient management software, dispensing software, etc.)i. Follows up with office practices and/or patients to ensure receipt of medicationj. Orders and maintains inventory of medications as neededk. Understands and is compliant with all state and federal laws, regulations, policies/procedures, and guidelines as related to specialty pharmacy - 50%
  • Supports the prescription packing and shipping functions of the specialty pharmacy by:a. Assembling and packaging prescription orders to prepare for shipmentb. Choosing appropriate shipping materials based on drug storage requirementsc. Documenting activities in appropriate software and packaging logsd. Communicating tracking information to desired partiese. Reconciling pharmacy claims with delivery information - - -- 20%
  • Maintains excellent customer service skills in communicating with many different specialty pharmacy customers including:a. patients and caregiversb. office practice staffc. prescribersd. pharmaceutical industry -- 10%
  • Participates in quality assurance/performance improvement or other projects as needed to develop or maintain best practices -- 10%

    • High School Diploma or equivalent
    • No previous experienceRequired Certifications, Registrations, Licenses
      • Registered as State Certified with the SC Board of PharmacyKnowledge, Skills or Abilities
        • Retail pharmacy IS/software - Required
        • Familiarity with 3rd party payment plans - Required
        • Excellent communication skills, team-orientation and customer service skills required. -
        • Ability to perform work accurately with attention to detail within specified time periods. -
        • Ability to work collaboratively with Health-System and other Pharmacy staff members. -
        • Ability to handle frequent interruptions, adapts to changes in workload and schedule. -
        • Ability to set priorities and solve problems. -
        • Ability to respond quickly to emergency requests -. - Required
